I Wanna Be The Guy!

September 24, 2009 ... no comments

So I think that’s all I feel like doing right now with the layout. Maybe I’ll try and make something fun for the background some time.

I really want to get back in to playing music. Today I got to go for coffee and catch up with a friend from Kelowna who had moved down to Vancouver about a year before I did. He was the first person I ever drummed with outside of lessons, and is in general a very music oriented person, so I am feeling rather inspired. It sounds like his band is between drummers right now… I’m not sure if I’d be what they’re looking for, but it’d be fun to jam with him again.

Been playing a game called “I Wanna Be The Guy”. Stupid hard game… but it’s so much fun. It’s what’s classified as a “platform hell” game, in the same ranks as Kaizo Mario. It’s a throwback to the things that made 8 and 16-bit games difficult… and then amplified by about a hundred times. The whole game is very toung in cheek (The easiest difficulty is “Medium”, and in you pick it, your character is given a pink bow and half of the save points are labeled “WUSS”), and is not in any way meant to even resemble being fair. Just about anything can, and will, kill you. I highly reccomend you check it out.

Drumming Update

So, I’ve just recently started drumming for a band, The Goodness.  You wouldn’t have heard of them, unless you were one of the 200 people at the one show they’ve ever played, sometime last year.  Anyways, their old drummer has a life, and can’t commit to the band any more, which is where I come in.  I’ve only played with them three times, twice with just the guitarist, but it’s a pretty good time.  However, they play Ska/Rock, which is a fair bit faster than what I tend to practice, so I’m still working on getting into, and staying in the groove.  I also got a new pair of sticks with a textured grip to keep the sticks from slipping so much, but as a result of tonight’s jam I now have a pair of magnificent blisters.

Also, my Protest The Hero vinyl came in the mail today.  It was done up in cardboard and duct tape, with the address sharpied on.  Hardcore.  The box got a bit dented on one side during shipping, but the record is fine.  Now to wait to have the house to myself, so I can blast it on the surround in the living room.

CD’s I have bought in the last month or so:

The Wombats - A Guide to Love, Loss & Desparation
Arctic Monkeys - Favourite Worst Nightmare
Led Zeppelin - Mothership (Compliation)
Bachman Turner Overdrive - Greatest Hits (Compilation)
Brand New - The Devil and God are Raging Inside Me
Metric - Old World Underground, Where Are You Now?
Stars - Do You Trust Your Friends?
System of a Down - Hypnotize
The Faint - Fasciinatiion
Black Kids - Partie Traumatic
Modest Mouse - Good News for People Who Love Bad News

Aaand I think that’s it.  I got some money for my birthday so that’s where most of those came from.  I will possibly attempt to talk a bit about what I think of them, if I get around to it, as that would be more productive than simply listing what I’ve bought.  I also ordered the Kezia record from Protest The Hero on vinyl, but that hasn’t arrived yet.

Also!  Stephen Colbert’s A Colbert Christmas: The Greatest Gift of All!  It’s amazing.

Don’t forget!

Everyone should go and download Stephen Colbert’s Christmas album from iTunes. It’s hillarious, and you’re doing your part to knock down Kanye West’s ego. And that is what Christmas is all about.

Recap

[long and boring]

And that should bring us up to now!

I’m working full-time as a Web Developer at a local design/marketing firm. I’m actually enjoying it quite a lot, even if a recent deadline stressed my face off.
I am an avid drummer, and music is my one true passion, so I hope to one day make a living with it. (I’ve been in 0.5 bands, so that’s an okay start!)
I have recently met a most wonderful girl, who I am going to go hang out with later today. We live about two hours apart, which is pretty much the perfect distance, so I am quite stoked whenever I get to see her.
